Wounded Burton officer named Grand Marshal of the Bricks

Just before Christmas last year, Burton police officer Dalton Christie became a law enforcement statistic when he was shot in the line of duty. While on the road to recovery, Christie was given top honor for one of the area’s biggest summer events.

The Back to the Brick organization announced Friday, July 1 that Officer Christie will serve as Grand Marshal for this year’s event. The Back to the Bricks Executive Committee traditionally honors someone who works hard, gives back, does their best to make a difference, and is proud of where they work and live as a selection. Christie, one of two officers shot on that fateful day last year, fits the bill perfectly.

As part of this distinguished honor, Officer Dalton will participate in the ribbon cutting at Factory One in Flint at 4 p.m. on August 17, 2022, which will be followed by a rolling cruise from Factory One to Grand Blanc High School. Once at the Bobcats’ home, Christie will be hosted by the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce at their “Roll on In” event.

Officer Dalton will also be at the opening ceremonies for Saturday’s main event as a special guest, August 20 at 10 a.m. near the GM Statue Plaza in downtown Flint on Saginaw Street.

Officer Christie, humbled by the news, commented on the honor saying:

“We really don’t want to be in the spotlight or recognised, but I’m proud to represent all the officers and their dedication to their duty.”

As he continues his recovery, Agent Chrisite is still focused on the career he has dedicated his life to. He is currently working on his Masters in Criminal Justice and is expected to return to full-time work soon, which Burton City Police Chief Brian Ross is looking forward to.

“I’m so proud of our department and Officer Dalton. What he and Brandon, the other officer involved, went through changed their lives. Ross said while praising the sheriff’s department and surrounding police departments, as well as local agencies for all their help and continued support.

Congratulations to Officer Dalton Christie for this well-deserved honour.
