However, he added that the fire only hit a parked private car and a few motorbikes and was then pushed back, preventing it from causing further damage.

“Fortunately, the building was not hit. During the attack, two suspects in custody escaped, four policemen valiantly paid the ultimate price, while a gun has yet to be recovered. Meanwhile, the area has been fortified with enough police,” Abattam said.

…Security agents land in the community of Izombe, injure 10 people and raze property

Of George OnyejiuwaOwerri

The The community of Izombe in Oguta Local Government Area in Imo State lamented the invasion of their community which led to the burning and looting of shops as well as innocent people wounded by bullets and machetes.

It should be recalled that armed men believed to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the early hours of Saturday clashed with police at the headquarters of the Biafran Police Division. ‘Agwa in the council of Oguta.

But residents of Izombe accused the police of invading their community, saying it had nothing to do with what happened in Agwa community.

Pauly Igbokwe, who spoke out against the destruction of property in Izombe community, said, “Agwa, where this incident happened, is not close to Umuokwu, Izombe village.

“The Izombe villages that share borders with Agwa are Amakpuruedere and Amaudara, both in the Autonomous Community of Oboebor. Umuokwu and Ugbele, where police officers torched buildings and torched two vehicles, are in the autonomous communities of Aborshi and Umunwama respectively.

“In one of the burnt buildings is just opposite the Holy Family Catholic Church, Izombe, where Mrs. Anuli Nzeocha, a young widow of about 36 years old was in the church to attend the combined mass Saturday for CMO and CWO when she was informed that they set fire to her father’s building where his pharmacy was on fire. My question is: what role did she play in such a crime which took place in Agwa if really that was the reason?

He denounced the repeated invasion of the community of Izombe by security agents.

“It was in October last year that more than 150 buildings were completely burnt down and destroyed in Umuokwu, Umuorji and Ndioko, all in Aborshi Izombe, by soldiers following a dispute they had with village boys.

“Nothing has been done for the colossal damage suffered by innocent people, and a new attack is launched against Izombe,” he said.

Igbokwe said they were still at the Catholic Men’s Organization and Catholic Women’s Organization’s first combined mass on Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Izombe when they received calls about the attack. .

He called on the state government to investigate the repeated incidents of mass destruction of homes of innocent people in Izombe and put an end to it.

In addition, Sampson, a victim of the invasion, said at least 10 people were injured by gunshots and machetes and seven vehicles were burned when the combined team of police, army and Ebubeagu security agents stormed the community of Izombe.

He said: “The heavily armed team also destroyed and burned around four buildings and 18 well-stocked shops located in the Umuokwu and Ugbele Izombe trading communities on Saturday. I was inside the room when I started hearing gunshots and loud noises from the shopping section of our complex.

“My wife even saw the heavily armed security guards and they pointed a gun at her and ordered her inside.

“When their noise subsided, we went outside and noticed that the shops section of our house had been destroyed with seven vehicles set on fire in Ugbele village alone.”

Similarly, Uka revealed that Ethelbert Ozor, Simeon Onyekador and six other people were injured by gunshots and machete blows inflicted by the group at Ugbele.

They called on the state government to always scrutinize intelligence gathered and track those suspected of being involved in a crime and recover them rather than haphazardly destroying the homes of innocent people.
