SiriusXM Launches Black History Month Channels Honoring Black Performers


SiriusXM launched its SiriusXM celebrates Black History Month channels honoring black music artists, including tributes to Motown, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis.

Limited-engagement channels will air throughout Black History Month on SiriusXM until March 1.

On the Aretha Franklin Channel, SiriusXM will pay tribute to the vast catalog of the “Queen of Soul” and to the artists who have been influenced by her musical contributions. The channel will appear in the Hip-Hop / R & B category on the SiriusXM app and will air on Channel 49 from February 15-21.

From February 8-14, listeners can tune into Channel 27 for the Jimi Hendrix Experience Channel. Classified in the Rock category on the SiriusXM app, this tribute to Jimi Hendrix will draw audiences into the musical world conceived by the legendary rock guitarist and singer. Through the use of studies and live performances as well as demos and original programming, the channel will honor Hendrix’s profound influence on music and the use of the electric guitar, in addition to highlighting artists influenced and inspired by his work.

Miles Davis Radio will be available in the Jazz / Standards category of SiriusXM and on Channel 67 from February 22-28. Honoring one of the most acclaimed figures in jazz music history, Miles Davis Radio will feature music from over 100 of the legendary musician’s albums. Members of the Davis alumni group, including Marcus Miller, Lenny White, John Beasley, Joey DeFrancesco and Vince Wilburn Jr., will make appearances on the channel.

Celebrate the iconic record company behind some of the biggest names in music history through the creation of Gordy Bay, The Motown Channel will feature music by black artists who changed music forever. The lineup includes music from Diana Ross & The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Jackson 5, and more.

There will also be a special virtual event to celebrate The Supremes 60th anniversary with founding member Mary Wilson. The channel will be available in the Hip-Hop / R & B category and on Channel 49 from February 1-7.
