Edo Police Command said they rescued a one-year-old baby and killed three suspected kidnappers on the Benin-Auchi road.
In a statement on Wednesday by Jennifer Iwegbu, the public relations officer of Edo Police Command, said the rescue followed a “distress call made by distraught residents of the Ashigbor community on along Benin-Auchi road at Uhunmwonde LGA of Edo State at 7:30 p.m. on 13/09/2022.
“Police officers spotted along this axis immediately mobilized and attended the scene, where they arrived at an empty compound which had been vandalized and heard a 42-year-old Elizabeth Ojo screaming that her baby had been removed.

“She said thugs suspected of being kidnappers vandalized her property and took her baby to a bush.”
She said officers moved into the bush for a possible rescue of the baby. According to her, the suspects, on seeing the officers, threw the baby into the bush and opened fire on them.
“During the shootout with the police officers, three of the six kidnappers succumbed to our superior firepower.
“The other three are still at large while further combing of the bush in this area is in progress.
“The baby was rescued unharmed and returned to her mother,” she said.
She added that a double-barreled shotgun, a cutlass and an ax were recovered from the suspects. NOPE
