Police rescue 13-month-old baby, kill suspected kidnappers in Edo


The Edo State Police Command rescued a 13-month-old baby and killed three of the six men who abducted the baby in the community of Acigbor, along the Benin-Auchi road in the government area state’s Uhunmwonde local.

Deputy State Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO) Jennifer Iwegbu revealed this in a statement she released today.

Iwegbu said the police were informed by the baby’s mother and pursued the kidnappers.

“In its continued attempt to curb the kidnappings, the Edo State Police Command has neutralized three kidnappers.

“A distraught resident, Elizabeth Ojo, 42, from Acigbor community along Benin-Auchi road, Uhunmwonde LGA of Edo State, at around 7:30 p.m. on September 13, 2022, rang the bell alarm that kidnappers have come to his compound in Ashigbor community. along the Benin-Auchi road in the Uhunmwonde local government area of ​​the state.

“Police officers working along this axis immediately mobilized and went to the scene, where they arrived at an empty complex which had been vandalized. On inquiry, Ojo said thugs suspected of being kidnappers vandalized her property and took her 13-month-old baby into the bush.

“Officers immediately moved into the bush for a possible rescue of the baby. The kidnappers, on seeing the police, threw the baby into the bush and opened fire on them.

“During the shootout with the police officers, three of the six captors succumbed to our superior firepower. The other three are still at large, while the combing of the bush in this area is still in progress.

“The baby was rescued unharmed and returned to the mother, while a custom-cut double-barreled pistol, cutlass and battle ax were recovered from the scene,” the police command said.

The statement added that State Police Commissioner Abutu Yaro commended the officers for their timely intervention and urged the brave people of Edo State to be more safety conscious and vigilant in the end. of the year.
