Obituary of Benjamin Hansen (1971 – 2021) – Milton, WI

Milton, WI – Benjamin D. Hansen, 50, died on December 28, 2021 at SSM Health Hospital in Janesville, WI from complications from COVID-19. Early in his career, Ben was employed by Northern Illinois Terrazzo & Tile Co., and later by Sergenian’s Floor Coverings. From 2007 until the time of his death, Ben worked as a terrazzo and tile installer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, for installations, planning and management. Ben was with the Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers Union, Local 13 Wisconsin Chapter from 1999 to 2021. Ben’s talents included carpentry, custom shower design, and other custom tile work. He enjoyed helping others with their home improvement projects. Ben’s hobbies included grilling over charcoal and wood all year round; and cook at home with her partner and the love of a lifetime Michell; playing sacks and darts with lifelong friends; watch Packer football, Brewer baseball, and WI Badgers football and basketball games live and on TV; tinkering with his 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme; and hanging out with his dog Zane.

Ben is predeceased by his parents, Robert Hansen and Rosemary (DeSalvo) Hansen; his brother, David Hansen; and her grandparents, Meredith and Gladys Hansen and Samuel and Rose DeSalvo. Ben is survived by his partner of over six years, Michell Sass; sister, Laurie (Wesley) Jennings; niece, Elizabeth (Theran) Steindl; and nephew, Jon Jennings; Brooke, Alexis and Tyler Gille of whom Ben was a father figure; and many close and long-time friends.

The family would like to thank Ben’s colleagues at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Facilities, Planning, and Management, who generously donated their time off to help Ben cover expenses, including health insurance costs. during his hospitalization.

Funeral services and a celebration of Ben’s life will take place at a later date when weather conditions allow an outdoor location and a group gathering to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
