For a few years, I have been saying that electric vehicles are overrated in terms of environmental benefits.
For millions of reasons that I won’t go into here, you’re not saving the environment as much as you think when you buy an electric vehicle.
However, you save yourself money. If you wanted to buy an electric car, now couldn’t be a better time to do it.
New Jersey just announced it will offer up to $4,000 to those who buy or lease electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. But wait – there’s more. They’ll even throw in $250 for home installation.
This incentive was named “Charge up New Jersey” by Governor Murphy and distributes this money to make the state more environmentally friendly. The payments differ depending on the price of the electric car purchased and are aimed at reducing Jersey’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Over 40% of greenhouse gas emissions in Jersey are due to petrol vehicles, which is an absurd figure. The state has serious plans to reduce this percentage to zero by 2050.
Although it may be long, the offer is quite enticing. People have their reasons for not driving electric vehicles, but Charge up New Jersey hopes to convince drivers otherwise. While I think there are so many better things to spend our tax dollars on, the state has allocated over $35 million to Charge Up and other amounts are allocated to installing charging station units , in houses and apartment buildings.
Imagine moving into an apartment building with chargers already installed. It would definitely convince me to go electric, especially in a busy city or even to avoid peak hour gas surges. If you’re feeling uncomfortable or unsure about an electric car, now might be the time to take the plunge and give it a shot.
They spend your money anyway, so might as well take advantage of it.
And also save a ton of money on gas.
