Richard Rawlings, a car customizer from Dallas known for his starring role on the Discovery Channel reality show fast and stronghas raised over $1 million after selling 28 vehicles from its classic car collection.

His no-reserve auction that began on September 7 was aimed at liquidating cars, trucks and motorcycles that he had taken more than 10 years to recover. Rawlings partnered with Bring a Trailer, a collector and enthusiast vehicle auction platform, and the auction was streamed live on GasMonkeyGarage.com.

His Ford Model T Custom “King T” built by hotrod legend Gene Winfield was the hardest for Rawlings to let go. Selling for $75,500, the car won the Most Beautiful Roadster award at the 1964 Oakland Roadster Show and was later commemorated as both a Hot Wheels car and an MPC model kit. It cost half of what Rawlings was pricing, he said, but “averaging” is part of the game.

“This guy got a really good deal, but it’s going to be a really cool collectible and avid Hot Wheels collector,” Rawlings said. The Dallas Morning News In Monday. “I’m excited about it.”

He also sold a 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo for $48,000 with only 25,000 miles on it. The car, finished in Aztec Red over charcoal fabric upholstery, will go to the Netherlands, Rawlings said.

Another car coming out of the United States is a modified 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback K-Code 5-speed that Rawlings has owned since January 2016. It sold for $75,000 to a buyer in the Cayman Islands.

The car was refurbished by Thoroughbred Restorations of Oklahoma City, Okla., in August 2018 to include a black repaint, red vinyl interior upholstery, and installation of a Tremec five-speed manual transmission.

The cars will slowly leave Gas Monkey Garage over the next few weeks. The first two stood out today, Rawlings said. Now all the paperwork begins, he added, and “here we go”.

He’s already launching his next collection with a 1974 Mercedes coupe. On Monday night, Rawlings will reveal his latest purchase on Gas Monkey Garage’s YouTube page.

“It was all really badass,” Rawlings said. “It was great working with the Bring a Trailer brand. I hope to do it again when we are ready to sell the next collection.
